The adventure comes to an end...
This semester is almost behind me. Overall it has been a good experience. Perhaps I took on too much with a new baby, working full time, and being a Mommie to my other 2 girls, but I have survived due to the support of a great husband. I found cataloging a lot harder than I expected, but I have learned a lot. Don't get me wrong, I still have a lot to learn. I've only got 4 classes left in this adventure. There is a possibility of a librarian job at the school I teach at now, so that is very exciting. Hopefully I won't forget all the new friends I made such as MARC and Dewey. I have also learned that I like blogging. I may try it again sometime.

Feeling Better!
I finally think I understand this Marc stuff. I just took a quiz that I feel pretty good about, but I have a habit if making careless errors under the pressure of the timer ticking away at me. I am enjoying DDC (Dewey Decimal). I like having a book that I can just look at and figure out the answers. I have done really well on my 2 practice assignments and I will hopefully do well on the graded one. I just keep plugging along and hope for the best.

I feel lost!
I was feeling so much better about this class until my last assignment. I thoroughly referred to my textbooks to correctly label my books only to have failed miserablely. I learn by example, but I am apparently reading the wrong examples. I am very discouraged. I will not except failure from myself. My time has dwindled this semester because I have a new baby at home, so I try to tell myself that's why I am having trouble with this ISBD AACR stuff. I used the practice assignment we were given and tried to fix those mistakes, only to make MAJOR ones on the graded assignment. We are moving on to MARC and I have to get myself focused. Wish me luck!!

The Adventure Begins
January 31, 2011
I have always loved books, especially children's literature. So when I decided to further my education and add to my teaching license, pursuing library science was a natural choice. As a working mother of 3, I decided that online classes would be best. I have enjoyed my experience thus far, but then I took the cataloging class. I have to admit that I feel a little lost at the moment. I had no idea there were so many different things involved with cataloging a book. I thought Dewey Decimal was all I would need to know. Boy was I wrong! It is a slow process, and I am actually having to study. My first 2 quizzes were very disappointing, but they taught me a lot. I am being introduced to new things such as blogging, which I am enjoying. This class is going to be a challenge, but I am going to do my best. My advice to myself is "Don't panic! You can do this."
